Face time (in real life) will always matter

Updated: Feb 5, 2024

I've spent the past 4 years largely living in Mexico, another great perk to the era we live in is that I can do my work from anywhere. Even in my agency years, many of our clients lived in other provinces or countries, so I had a head start when it came to learning to to build rapport, trust and do great work, even when not physically with my clients. Relationships are one of the top five most important components in choosing a publicist, whether an agency or a public relations consultant, like myself.

But there is something to be said for being physically present when you can. Some of the strongest media relationships I have made - and trust me, they matter now more than ever, have happened because I intentionally made time for an off the record coffee or even moments before or after a segment to spend some time really meeting someone.

Last year, I not only made some great new media contacts in the crypto space, but I met new friends and solidified old friendships simply by being present, smiling, and genuinely wanting to know people's stories. It's worth it, not just for the contacts to add to your client roster or media lists, but because every single person has a story, and staying curious is what keeps me driven. What about you?
